Count checkbox survey answers by group
Turn multi-select survey responses into answer counts by group and a row-by-row review of unmatched text.

Export the responses as a CSV. Enter the exact names of the group and answer columns from its first row. Paste every fixed checkbox choice on its own line, including choices that contain commas. The download contains counts-by-group.csv and answers-and-review.csv, where unmatched text and rows needing a check remain alongside their source row number. Your CSV stays in this browser.

What this can and cannot do
For pipe-separated answers, every unmatched part is preserved as Other text. For comma-and-space answers, known choice labels are matched as whole labels, even if a label contains commas. Existing exports can be ambiguous when a free-text answer also contains commas or two interpretations fit; those source rows are excluded from counts and marked Check row. Blank groups/answers and duplicate choices are also held. Percentages use only counted responses in each group and can total above 100% because a person may select several choices. Check Other text and held rows before sharing. CSV limit: 1 MB and 5,000 responses; up to 50 fixed options. This tool does not alter your form or recover information omitted by its export.
